Viscose Fiber Industry

Viscose fiber is a type of artificial cellulose fiber made of such raw materials as wood, bamboo and cotton linters, mainly used in the textile industry. Viscose fiber includes viscose filament yarn and viscose staple fiber, especially the viscose staple fiber output accounts for about 90% of the total viscose fiber output.

Viscose fibre is developed from a grouping of natural and man-made constituents and it can be made into the more ordinary form of rayon, it is used in several kinds of textile materials such as clothing, upholstery etc,.

Properties and Uses:

1. Viscose gives the appearance and feels as soft and silky.
2. Viscose has the aptitude to respire in a wary similar to cotton.
3. Viscose fibres have good moisture regain property like cotton fibres.
4. Viscose fibres can be easily dyed in several colors.
5. When heating the viscose fibre, it does not shrink.
6. Viscose fibre is biodegradable.
7. Viscose can be blend with some other fibres: with polyester gives Polyviscose, with cotton give Cotton-Viscose.
8. Viscose can be used in several industries such as Apparel Industry, hygienic disposables where its higher absorbency is of great advantage.
9. Viscose is an excellent material for linings in filament yarn structure
10. Viscose can crease easily and minimize in its size when introduced in hot water.

Manufacturing Viscose fibres:

Viscose fibres are prepared from cellulose from wood pulp. Wood pulp cellulose are reacted with caustic soda, after a matured waiting period of time, the developing process will takes place. During that time, depolymerisation occurs and carbon disulphide will be added. It forms a yellow crumb, called as Xanthate which can be easily dissolved in more caustic soda to give a viscous yellow solution.
